Sorley Family

I used access Midwives in 2019 for the birth of my son. All of my appointments at Access helped me prepare for the birth. My midwives would go through everything that was happening and would let me know what to expect as the pregnancy progressed. They would give a lot of time for discussions and questions. I was able to chose between McMaster Hospital, St Joseph’s Hospital or a home birth.

I chose McMaster hospital. I wanted to have as much of a natural birth as I could but was open to interventions if it was necessary. When I got to the hospital I was already 7cm dilated. I was able to utilize the large tub, shower and medicine ball to help relieve pain and discomfort. The birthing room was large and comfortable and it didn’t feel like I was in a medical facility. My midwife made me feel comfortable and was with me every step of the way through the labour and delivery. I was able to deliver a healthy 9 pound baby safely without the use of an epidural or medical interventions.

After the birth my midwife came to my house for all my postpartum appointments. This was a lifesaver. My baby was on the higher end of the scale for jaundice and the midwives had to come to my house every other day for two weeks. If I hadn’t used midwives, I would have had to go to the hospital every other day for these appointments. If you are looking to have a natural birth but still wanting to have the safety net of being in a hospital, I would 100 percent go with a midwife. I loved my experience using access midwives and I would definitely use them again for a second baby!
