I recently delivered my first baby with Access Midwives. I was planning a homebirth and desperately didn’t want to end up in the hospital. Through all of the fear and anxiety anticipating a birth during this pandemic, my amazing midwives, Cait, Kristen, and Emma, helped reassure me and plan for both scenarios.

I ended up delivering my baby at home with Emma and backup midwife Erin. Unfortunately, my placenta wasn’t coming out and I ended up transferring to McMaster Hospital. Emma rode in the ambulance with me (my husband and baby were not allowed due to restrictions) but she still made me feel so safe and calm.

Our time in the hospital was very quick and they discharged me as soon as they could. Although I ended up in the hospital, I am still so grateful for my homebirth and the incredible support from the entire team of midwives. The home visits in the weeks after the birth were so helpful and every time, I felt so relieved that I didn’t need to leave my house to get such good care.

I feel incredibly lucky to have had such passionate and knowledgeable women helping me during such a wild time. Thank you, Poppy and I are forever grateful!
