Odin

Our second born, and first son, Odin, was born under the gentle care of the Pink Team. The entire team was very professional and knowledgeable during each prenatal visit. They answered my questions and fully respected my birth requests. Wanting a home birth this time around, the midwives well prepared me and my husband before Odin's birth so we felt completely comfortable and confident in the process. 

To prepare myself, I hired a brilliant doula from The Womb in Burlington, took the Hypnobirthing course, and read The Birth Partner and Birthing from Within - all of which I would recommend if you are desiring a homebirth. 

On the evening of November 13th, full moon in Scorpio, my water broke at 7pm. With support from my husband, I rode the incremental waves of sensations from about 8pm onwards. At around 7am I felt ready to contact my midwives and doula. Amanda and Katie (seasoned student) came swiftly, joining us and my Doula, Karen. Moving from position to position, and following the cues of my support team, our baby eventually made his way through my birth canal and into our bedroom. Once we 3 were all settled in under our duvet,  our doula cooked us a warm meal while the midwives ensured our health and safety for the next three hours. I should mention that a third midwife named Beth arrived just before Odin came. For those unfamiliar, their protocol is that both mother and baby receive individualized care. 

We are now almost 2 weeks postpartum and neither my son nor myself have needed to leave our home (other than for some fresh air!). As this time of bonding and attachment is critical to baby's development, having the midwives visit us in our home for postpartum care has been such a relief and a gift!
