Cobie Shockey, Students
Team Purple Student
Transplanted from Alberta, my roots in the Hammer are 6 years deep and have loved calling it
home ever since! My path to midwifery was shaped by encountering systemic inequity and
navigating Human Rights legislation. Aligned with my desire to build genuine connections and
support others in realizing autonomy, midwifery felt like a natural place where those values
could come together in my work and my commitment to being a part of the solution.
Ultimately, ending up in midwifery has been somewhat kismet. Having done my first clinic day
in my second year at Access, the whole experience feels very full circle!
Outside of Midwifery, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and the outdoors. My favourite memories are
exploring the Rockies and travelling across Canada. Though school keeps me busy, I still find
joy in nature whenever I can. Quiet moments and late-night drives with a warm cup of tea and
good music help me recharge. Chances are, I have a playlist ready and a teabag in my pocket!
Growing up in rural Alberta, community has always been central to my upbringing. This
connection to place and space shapes my vision for midwifery. I feel truly honoured to be
invited into people's birth stories. Over the last three years in the program, nothing has
impacted me more than the experiences I've shared with clients and mentors.
It is the greatest privilege to support you during your care. I look forward to the opportunity
to evolve together.
Can't wait to meet you!
